Spelling
Every morning our Literacy workshops will have a focus around spelling or phonics. Here the students are using whiteboards to have a go at spelling words. The words are based on particular sounds and the students are using spelling patterns to help them. There is also a general discussion about what kind of strategies they use like words within words.

Exploring Stories Through Role-Play
Coronet have been exploring the structure of stories by bringing them to life. Having the rotunda space (stage) really helps the students understand the idea of performing to an audience. We definitely have some possible Oscar winners in Coronet!

Reading Skill of Scanning
The students have been learning about the skill of scanning. We learnt about how to identify a key word and look for it in a variety of situations. During this session we applied the skill to research about elephants on a website. I was amazed how quickly they found the website and how accurate they were with their findings. Fantastic effort!

Collaboration - Helping Others
Every morning for about 15-20 mins a mentor discusses and models types of collaboration. The focus for the last couple of weeks has been collaborating to keep Coronet tidy. However, the students are embracing the idea of helping others and doing a fantastic job of looking after each other. 😃

Tinkering and Collaboration
Coronet have been focusing on the value of collaboration. During our 'tinkering' time we encouraged/challenged the students to work together on projects/activities. They are beginning to appreciate the impact collaboration can have on the quality of their work or ideas. It's fantastic to see the smiles of achievement and joy by producing something together. 😃
It's also noticeable that many of the students are now collaborating to keep the habitat organised and tidy. Without being asked, some students are beginning to tidy areas they did not work in and help others to pack away.

Tinkering
Tinkering gives the students the opportunity to explore areas of learning they have recently learnt about. There was a lot going on including Sumdog, Jenga, Marble Runs, cooking, Lego challenges and more!
