Coronet have been learning how to take responsibility of looking after and playing our new board games and activities. It was a lot of fun playing them too! 😃

Tinkering

As each week goes by we are activating more areas for the students to explore and enjoy. Once they have completed their 'must-do' tasks they have the opportunity to choose an activity. The students have quickly got used to signing in for themselves with Sumdog and collaborating with building cups. They were very excited to show us this huge tower!

Activating the Rotunda Space

Coronet have been working on a variety of activities to activate the Rotunda space. The space is designed for performing to an audience so we have been working on creating puppets, drama, using our voice, sharing a speech/news, structure of short stories and many more!

Sumdog

The students were introduced to Sumdog which is a website of maths games. It adapts to the needs of the student and is a fantastic way to practice areas of maths which can become frustrating to learn. The games are more like games than maths activities which helps!

Building the tallest towers

What an awesome afternoon!! We reflected on the towers we made with pasta last week and used these to help us make even better ones this week! We looked at the worlds 10 top tallest towers and then worked together to see if we could make a tower over a metre tall!!! Wow!!! What an awesome effort team!!!

Story telling

We have been doing some storytelling. Some children were brave enough to share in front of the whole group.

Reading Poems and Activities

Learning how to give full attention whilst reading poetry has been a big success. Also, learning how to stay on task and work without being too noisey has been a challenge. The activities have been so much fun it's hard not to!

Routines, Routines

We have been working hard on establishing routines to help us learn. Some are taking longer than others but we are improving every day! 😃

Different Spaces, Different Uses

We have an incredible environment which has a wide variety of clearly defined spaces but it is also extremely adaptable and flexible too. This creates the opportunity for the mentors and the students to use the spaces in a way that suits their learning. Some spaces are very clear about their purpose but our students are definitely coming up with some that we didn't quite expect!

Working Together

The students have enjoyed a variety of activities to encourage them to work together and understand the importance of teamwork. It is wonderful to see our habitat helping each other by using their initiative to tidy and organise areas they were not working in.

Four Ways of Knowing Helping Out

The students were totally immersed when expressing their thoughts with Lego. We gave them a short time to explore and they created some very imaginative 'scenes!' After the exploration and understanding the idea of creating a scene, the students visualised using Lego to show what helping out looked like and when we do not. We were particularly impressed with how diverse their thoughts were around helping out. At least we know now if we were to be trapped by a net we are all safe!

Getting to Know the Students

The Coronet mentors have created a variety of ways to find out more about the students. The students have certainly embraced all the opportunities to tell us about themselves. They have already shown real glimpses of a 'growth mindset' by wanting to go back to their work and improve it so it could be displayed in the habitat. Impressive!
